Do you qualify for transcatheter aortic valve replacement?

The only effective long-term treatment for a narrowed aortic valve, or aortic stenosis, used to be open heart valve replacement surgery. For those who qualify, the interventional cardiology team at Nuvance Health offers an advanced treatment option: transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

Diagnosing aortic stenosis

We use advanced diagnostic tools to study your aorta and determine if TAVR is the right treatment for you. Learn more about cardiovascular imaging and testing.

How TAVR works

TAVR uses a minimally invasive approach. Your doctor makes a small incision in your leg, shoulder or chest and inserts a thin tube (catheter) into your artery. We guide the catheter to your heart, using real-time imaging, and replace the aortic valve while your heart is still beating.

Recovering from TAVR

TAVR offers faster recovery time than open heart surgery, and you can usually return home within several days. Your doctor gives you recovery instructions, which may include a special diet, exercise, and heart medicine, such as blood-thinning drugs. It’s important to follow these directions, so you have the best outcome possible.

Benefits of TAVR

The TAVR procedure improves your health by:

  • Reducing symptoms
  • Improving your heart’s function
  • Allowing you to take part in regular activities and regain control of your life

Comprehensive care and support for aortic stenosis

TAVR may be part of your customized treatment plan for aortic stenosis, which may also include heart medicine. Keeping your heart healthy is a lifelong journey. We support you with follow-up appointments to monitor your heart’s function and ensure you’re feeling well.
