Norwalk Hospital Emergency Medical Services

Norwalk Hospital Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is the 911 paramedic ambulance provider for the City of Norwalk, Connecticut. In addition, we provide paramedic staffing service to the Towns of New Canaan, Weston, Westport, Wilton and EMT staffing for Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corp.

Our primary mission is to provide consistent, excellent and compassionate pre-hospital emergency medical care. 

Education and Training

Norwalk Hospital EMS has a robust professional, continuing and community education mission. We are a National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) Training Center and American Heart Association Training Center and offer EMS classes at Norwalk Hospital in partnership with surrounding agencies.

History of Norwalk Hospital emergency medical services

Norwalk Hospital has provided ambulance service to the city of Norwalk since 1893. We are proud of our many “firsts”. Among them are:

  • 1893
    First hospital-based ambulance service in Connecticut.
  • 1988
    First paramedics in Fairfield County to carry intraosseous devices.
  • 1991
    First paramedic service in Connecticut to carry paralytics for airway management.
  • 1993
    First paramedic service in Fairfield County to routinely perform 12-lead ECGs.
  • 2018
    First emergency medical service agency in Connecticut to use antibiotics for open fractures.
