As a general surgeon with close to 30 years of experience, Michael Ormont, MD, changed his career focus to wound care in 2020, allowing him, he said, to develop long-lasting, professional relationships with his patients and have a positive impact on their lives.
He recently joined Nuvance Health as the Director of Wound Care Services at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
“My focus is on patient education, helping people learn the best way to encourage wound healing, prevent recurrence and improve their quality of life,” Dr. Ormont said. “Seeing people learn to manage their chronic conditions and reduce the burden of their illnesses to live more fulfilling lives is highly gratifying.”
Dr. Ormont has extensive experience with all wound types, including arterial, venous, surgical and traumatic wounds. He continues to operate, performing debridement (damaged tissue removal) and wound coverage and closure procedures.

“I want you to feel completely comfortable with your care, asking questions to aid in your understanding of your condition and how you can best recover and avoid the recurrence of your wound in the future,” he said of his patients.
Dr. Ormont earned his medical degree from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa. He completed his residency in general surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa., along with additional training at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth in Hanover, NH. Dr. Ormont is board-certified in general surgery.
“Care of chronic and nonhealing wounds is a highly specialized practice, requiring a multidisciplinary approach,” Dr. Ormont said. “I collaborate with your physicians and practitioners to improve your overall health and create the optimal conditions for wound healing. As a general surgeon, I have the experience necessary to identify wounds that require surgical intervention to achieve closure.”
