DANBURY, NORWALK, Connecticut, March 8, 2021 — Dr. Ramanathan Seshadri has joined Nuvance Health and is seeing patients and performing surgeries at Danbury Hospital and Norwalk Hospital. Dr. Seshadri specializes in treating liver, bile duct and pancreatic cancer and other complex hepatobiliary conditions.
Dr. Seshadri has extensive abdominal transplant and hepatobiliary surgery experience using open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgical techniques.
“The complexity, the degree of accuracy, and the attention to detail required to perform transplant and hepatobiliary surgery sparked my interest,” said Dr. Seshadri. “However, transplant procedures are mostly open surgeries. I decided to further train in hepatobiliary surgery to gain additional experience performing minimally invasive procedures, including laparoscopic and robotic surgeries.”
When patients seek care from Dr. Seshadri, they can expect him to be honest, transparent, and approachable. He values quality of life, believes in practicing evidence-based medicine, and encourages his patients to participate in decision-making. He also takes a multidisciplinary approach to patient care and reviews each case with his colleagues from different specialty areas.
“At Nuvance Health, we offer collaborative, universal care for our patients,” said Dr. Seshadri.
Dr. Seshadri — a self-described career surgeon — said he wants to be a part of building Nuvance Health’s oncology program and shaping it to meet the community's needs.
Dr. Seshadri is passionate about surgical education and teaching.
“I am glad to be a part of a health system that values education as an integral part of how we provide care,” said Dr. Seshadri. “I am an advocate for highly subspecialized care teams that include surgical residents, physician assistants, nurses, and medical assistants who understand the disease process and can provide more personal patient care.”
Dr. Seshadri completed a clinical fellowship in hepatobiliary surgery at Atrium Health in Charlotte, NC, and a clinical fellowship in abdominal transplant surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL. He completed residency trainings at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA and Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, MA, both teaching affiliates of Tufts University School of Medicine. Born and raised in southern India, he earned his medical and undergraduate degrees from Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute in Madras.
Before joining Nuvance Health, Dr. Seshadri was a hepatobiliary and pancreas surgeon at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. He was also the surgeon champion for the institution and was instrumental in earning several accolades from the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS-NSQIP) for best clinical outcomes in a tertiary care referral center.
Dr. Seshadri currently serves as a committee member in several surgical societies including the American College of Surgeons, the Americas Hepatopancreatobiliary Association and the International Hepato-Pancreato biliary Association.
When he is not seeing patients, Dr. Seshadri enjoys playing tennis, hiking trails and national parks, exploring the world culinary cuisine and spending time with his wife — an endocrinologist — and their two young children.
