Earning ACGME accreditation is a milestone for the New Milford community, paving the way for expanded medical training and improved healthcare access. The first class of family medicine residents will begin their training in July.

The family medicine program emphasizes rural healthcare and comprehensive patient care, providing residents with hands-on training under the guidance of experienced faculty physicians. This approach will help build a strong, skilled healthcare workforce for the community.

The program’s mission is to develop independent, compassionate physicians who will provide high-quality patient care and remain dedicated to lifelong learning.

The family medicine residency program at New Milford Hospital is supported by a broad and well-established foundation in family medicine and residency education.

“We’ve recruited a diverse faculty with decades of teaching experience to provide our residents with the highest quality learning environment,” said Dr. Robert Carr, program director of the family medicine residency program at New Milford Hospital. “They will have unique opportunities to learn the full breadth of the specialty and collaborate with residents from other specialties at our other network hospitals.”

The New Milford primary care practice is located within the hospital, which helps provide continuity for family medicine residents, allowing them to follow their patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
