Follow-up care after bariatric surgery
After surgery, you undergo a series of follow-up visits. They are frequent at first, then every few months and as your health stabilizes, once a year. During these visits, we:
    • Monitor your recovery from surgery
    • Evaluate vitamin, nutrient and hydration levels
    • Review your diet, eating habits and activity levels
    • Ask you about your emotional health, including anxiety, body image issues and any other negative feelings
    • Check the status of obesity-related issues, including sleep apnea, high blood pressure and diabetes
    • Discuss other challenges you may be facing, including difficult relationships and life changes

    • Depending on your needs, we may recommend:
      • Changes to your diet, activity level or vitamins
      • Meeting with an obesity medicine doctor to get to the source of lingering weight issues
      • Speaking with a behavioral health professional to address social or emotional challenges
      • Smaller doses or discontinuing medications for obesity-related conditions
      • Weight loss support groups
Our monthly support group gives you an opportunity to meet and learn from people going through some of the same challenges. Dietitians and behavioral health professionals host the meeting.

During support group meetings, we discuss common challenges and tips for pushing past them. Common topics include:
          • Healthy foods and recipes
          • Staying motivated
          • Emotional eating
          • Physical activity
          • Excess skin and when to consider surgery
          • Coping with relationship changes
